Quick Examples
How It Works
The expression
0 * * * * fires exactly once per hour, at minute 0. Unlike */60 * * * * (which is invalid — minutes only go up to 59), this is the correct way to schedule hourly jobs. Setting the minute to 0 ensures the job always starts at the top of the hour.Common Use Cases
- 1Hourly log rotation
- 2Pulling exchange rates or stock prices
- 3Running hourly analytics aggregation
Linux Crontab Example
0 * * * * /usr/sbin/logrotate /etc/logrotate.hourly.confAdd this line to your crontab with crontab -e
